Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh founded The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in 1956 and remains Patron.

Leading youth Charity the DofE gives all young people aged 14-24 the chance to develop skills for life and work, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future.

They provide a balanced programme of activities that develop the whole person – mind, body and soul – in an environment of social interaction and teamworking.

Taking part builds confidence and develops self-esteem.

It requires persistence, commitment and has a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people who do their DofE.

Evidence of volunteering is seen as a valuable asset for young people entering the workplace.

Volunteering develops team working skills, communication, time management and prioritisation, problem-solving, adaptability and leadership talent.

These are all key competencies that young people with volunteering experience bring to the workplace.

It is made up of 3 levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

The sections of the Award are: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition (Gold has an additional Residential section).

The D of E is a non-competitive, personalised Award which is achievable by all young people.

The aim is that it is enjoyable experience to aid in the young person’s personal development.

Peterborough City Council operate the D of E through Schools, Academies and Centres across the City.

If you are a young person at a school or Academy, you should speak to your D of E Leader (please ask the school if you are unsure who this is) or, if you are not at school or would rather participate outside of your school, there is The Peterborough Open Award Centre which can provide the opportunity to complete your D of E.
