Barnardo's- East and Central Children's Centre

Our key purpose is to improve the lives of young children and their families, with a particular focus on those in greatest need.  Our centres provide early intervention and help, which includes support and guidance for families with children with mild to moderate disabilities and special educational needs. Typical group based services include postnatal and baby groups, baby massage, stay and play, singing and story sessions, as well as specialist parenting programmes that focus on behaviour and routines. We will shortly be introducing therapeutic groups for parents who need some time to themselves and we support parents to take up free child care provision using the 2 year olds funding scheme.  We also run Parents United, which offers low level emotional and practical support to the parents of children aged 0-19 years, as well as supporting parents to meet new families. One to one support in the home is also available from our dedicated family support team. The focus of support is to enable parents to meet the needs of their child and feel confident in doing so, as well as providing a listening ear and emotional wellbeing support. We do not offer specialist support services such as Portage, Short Breaks or direct support to children with complex health needs, but we can work with you to make contact with the relevant specialists.
