You said - 70% don’t go to clubs outside school
We did:
- Vivacity reviewed and improved their groups and made sure the Vivacity website was up to date with the new clubs
- The SEND Information Hub website (Local Offer) was updated with Vivacity new youth group timetables and new groups for people aged 17 plus
You said - 62% not had their voice heard by joining a school council or youth voice group
We did:
- We supported a new youth group called 'Voices of the East' so that all young people with SEND can get involved and be part of a much bigger voice across the whole of the East of England. This voice will be heard at government level and help to inform policies. Speak to your school SENCO who has all the details
- In October 2023 we commissioned a new service called 'Voiceability Peterborough' who will be coming around to schools to seek your views. They are here with us today. They will produce reports for the council about lots of support or help you may need or to let us know what is going well
You said - Where do I find clubs?
We did:
- Families, teachers and other professionals have been ask to help you with this and help you look on the Send Information Hub website (Local Offer) for updates
- We also updated the SEND Information Hub and added a ‘what's on’ section
You said - What about the cost?
We did:
- Professionals should help you make sure you have the correct benefits
- Helping you learn about the benefits you are entitled to and if these can help you budget for clubs
- We are trying to get an expert on benefits to come to our next event, but there is a link on our SEND Information Hub, Money and Benefits (Local Offer) web page
You said - Where can you live in the future?
We did:
- We have asked parents and teachers to talk about this with you
- You will be consulted on the council’s new Housing Strategy for 2024-5 so you know your housing rights!
- You can learn about what technology will help you live independently. You can visit Peterborough Smart Flat with parents/carers and on school visits
You said - You want to learn to cook healthy meals
We did:
- We are working with health professionals, schools and colleges to help you do this in 2024 and will add more information on the SEND Information Hub
You said - You want help to travel on your own
We did:
- You helped us make a travel training manual in September 2023. All your schools have this and you can ask them to give you travel training
- The Access Champions in City College offer travel training
You said - You want more help to find a job
We did:
- Colleges will help you learn skills that will help you find a job. You should have 8 opportunities to learn about work or have work experience at school. We are checking to see you have this.
- Three schools are piloting virtual work experience.
- We are working with schools to help you make vocational profiles so you can start talking about work and job skills earlier! Start your vocational profile today

Parent Carer Participation
Parent Carer Forums
Part 3 of The Children and Families Act 2014 requires Parent Carer Forums to be established in all local authority areas. Parent Carer Forums are representative local groups of parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities who work alongside local authorities, education, health and other service providers to ensure the services they plan, commission, deliver and monitor meet the needs of children and families. In Peterborough the local Parent Carer Forum is Family Voice.

SEND College Students Survey - October 2020
Survey
Background
Launched in October 2020, a survey was sent by the communications team to students with SEND at City College Peterborough. 12 responses were received.
Aim
To gain an understanding of the channels and methods young people with SEND prefer to receive information and what improvements they would like to see in relation to SEND communications
Goals
To use the insights from this survey to better inform our communications strategies. To identify the most resourceful and effective ways to inform and assist young people with SEND to access the support and information they need.
Summary
- Students prefer to receive SEND information from their college and via social media
- Top channels used are YouTube and Facebook
- Students prefer to watch videos, read information on websites and listen to information verballly
- They prefer their parents/carers and teachers/support workers to help them understand information
- An overwhelming majority feel it is very hard to find SEND information
- Young people would like to provide feedback on improving access via surveys and through their families/carers
Recommendations
- Develop a suite of engaging relevant videos for use school and college YouTube channels
- Plan regular/live events for young people and their families streamed via YouTube
- Review website pages and documents to ensure they're accessible, intuitiveand tailored to target audiences
