New Ark Social Mornings & Animal Care Courses

Are you supporting a client who has a love of animals?

If so, we wanted to let you know what New Ark City Farm has to offer.

Social Mornings

For a number of years we have welcomed visits to the farm by adults with additional needs and in order to maximise the enjoyment of our visitors and the benefits that the farm can provide them we have created two social mornings.

These generally run on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10am and 12pm. The sessions are £5 (there is no charge for carers and support workers).

Visitors can;

  • Feed, groom and/or work with the animals
  • Enjoy some light refreshments and chat to the friendly staff & other visitors

Many of our adult visitors find that visiting the farm and interacting with the animals is very therapeutic.

“The farm provides a safe, supportive environment to
experience new situations and build new skills”

Working at the farm gives our visitors the opportunity to take part in purposeful, rewarding work as part of a team, towards a common goal. Through this work, volunteers can develop problem solving skills, and increased confidence and self-esteem from being able to work independently on tasks. The work can stimulate change in a person and help develop transferable skills.

Free Animal Care Courses

We are now working in partnership with Peterborough City College and can offer free
animal care courses for adults aged 19+. Our courses are suitable for adults with social and emotional difficulties and learning disabilities and some of our learners attend with carers and support workers.

Each course runs for two hours a week and lasts for four weeks. Light refreshments are

Each session starts with some interactive teaching, followed by a practical session where
learners can interact directly with our animals and practice skills covered in the class
session. Our tutor is very experienced in supporting adults with a variety of additional
needs and we deliberately keep our groups small so that we can be responsive to learners’ individual needs. Our tutors ensures that the sessions are relaxed and enjoyable in order to maximise the benefits for every learner.
