AdFam with support from the BBC's Children In Need we are working in Peterborough to support kinship carers and the children they look after. Kinship carers are family members, most commonly grandparents, but also aunts, uncles, siblings and others, who take on the care of a child because the parents are unable to.
Coronavirus update 28/4/2020
Sue Nash, volunteer co-ordinator of the Peterborough Kinship Carers support group, and Jane MacTaggart, Adfam Kinship Care Support and Development Co-ordinator are sending twice weekly emails to all kinship carers with whom we are currently in contact to offer activity ideas and pass on information. We are also providing telephone support with any carers who would like additional support. We have recently commenced online meetings using zoom with a small group of carers and children to support them to keep connected during this period. These will continue at least once per week during the current restrictions depending on demand.
The Adfam Kinship Care Project in Peterborough offers support to kinship families affected by the drug and alcohol use of family members. Our working hours have not changed. Jane MacTaggart works on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Jane is contactable on 07753 218472, j.mactaggart@adfam.org.uk.
The Adfam website contains lots of useful information for kinship carers. There is a section dedicated to covid-19 where kinship carers will be able to download monthly activity packs containing ideas and games for children and families to do at home during the current restrictions. https://adfam.org.uk/COVID-19/family-activity-packs
We remain happy to receive any kinship referrals where carers and children may welcome additional support.
