Highlees Primary School
Highlees Primary School is a mixed primary school catering for children between the ages of 4 and 11, serving the area of Westwood and some parts of Ravensthorpe.
The school was built in the 1960s on traditional lines and consists of two large halls, fourteen classrooms and an ICT suite fitted with thirty three computers which are all connected to the internet. All classrooms are fitted with projectors and whiteboards for the effective use of ICT in supporting the teaching and learning. Wireless technology allows access to the internet and the school's server from all areas of the school.
- The school and all its grounds are strictly in a 'no smoking zone';
- In the interests of hygiene we ask that dogs are not brought onto the school grounds;
- We ask that no one parks on the yellow lines outside the school

Our school operates new in-take screening assessments to determine their individual needs and the support required. We will then work with parents and appropriate agencies to ensure these needs are met.
The SENCo is responsible for maintaining an overview of all children with SEN within the academy and for maintaining a list of children with SEN as a tool in tracking progress. They are supported by Teaching Assistants who provide ‘in class’ support across the curriculum to all children with special educational needs in all years. They will also provide individual support for pupils with specific needs, where appropriate and have input into a differentiated curriculum.
