Barnsdale Gardens

38 inspiring gardens, all in one place!

For families or gardeners, Barnsdale is an inspiring place to visit at any time of the year.

With Britain's largest collection of individually designed gardens, it's teeming with great ideas.

With thirty eight individual gardens in an eight-acre site, there's plenty to see and do at Barnsdale.

Our inspiring range of garden styles and planting schemes have been referred to as 'a theme park for gardeners'.

However, you'll get plenty of opportunity to rest, contemplate and learn alongside all the excitement when you visit us.

Whether you are a keen gardener, an armchair gardener or a visitor looking for a wonderful day out with a great lunch in our tea rooms, then Barnsdale Gardens is for you!

Take the garden tour and see for yourself the amazing range of ideas in our individually designed and well-stocked gardens, all built on peat-free, organic principles.

Each one offers practical concepts that you can use at home as well as botanically labelled plants; ideal for making notes of the ones you really like before visiting our nursery, or browsing the Internet to make direct purchases at our online plants shop.

So, re-creating one of the Barnsdale Gardens really is just a click away.

At our nursery we produce a wide variety of high quality plants, including more unusual and rare species, that are all propagated from the gardens.

Our policy is to grow small numbers of a large range of plants, which means that our plants website is being continually updated as we acquire new species and propagate from them.

It is for this reason that it is always worth asking for a particular plant, even if you do not see it listed or cannot find it on sale.

There are always helpful and knowledgeable staff on hand if you have any questions, and after a pleasant meander round the nursery, you can relax in our licensed tea room with a drink and a snack.

Here at Barnsdale, we pride ourselves in serving the very best seasonal fare, all freshly produced to order and, wherever possible, sourced locally.

The licenced Tea Room seats 120, with extra seating outside overlooking the Gardens for warm days.

We also provide free wi-fi to visitors to the Tea Rooms.

Please note - We do not allow visitors to consume their own food and drinks in the Tea Room, outside seating area or any part of the Gardens.

Entry to the plant nursery and coffee shop are free.

Disability assistance dogs are welcome.

No other dogs or pets are allowed into the Gardens.

Group entry to the Gardens requires advanced booking.

Barnsdale Gardens is so much more than a fantastic day out in beautiful garden environments.

It is a place to learn and to take part in special events.

Parking

Parking for cars and coaches is provided free of charge.

Special parking spaces are provided for the disabled and for people bringing their dogs (NB - Dogs are not allowed into the Gardens, Nursery or Tea Rooms).

During peak season, it is advisable for you to telephone us in advance if you intend to bring your dog with you and we will do our best to reserve a parking space.

Disabled Access

Disabled visitors are always very welcome at the Gardens, and with most areas being on the flat, they are easily accessible by wheelchair users.

There are just a few areas that cannot be accessed by wheelchairs and there is plenty of seating for disabled visitors’ assistants, visitors with limited mobility, or for accompanying friends who just want to sit back and take it all in.

Barnsdale has been recognized with an award by the Rutland Access Group for its disabled facilities, which include disabled parking, disabled toilets and ramp-access to parts of the Gardens where necessary.

We also have wheelchairs and a mobility scooter, which visitors are free to use.

However, they are very popular and it is therefore advisable to pre-book before arrival.

Cycles

Cyclists are welcome at any time of year and we have an easily accessible cycle rack, which is clearly visible on arrival.
