Who are we?
The u3a movement is a collection of groups (u3as) that run local and online member-led learning for those no longer in full time work across the UK. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with learning remotely or in your area.
In Peterborough our activities are offered for a small membership fee, plus group charges for hall hire etc (where applicable).
- Activities are run by the members for the members
- We are not a care facility, although our members are very caring.
- No lower or upper age limit exists, however, most members fall in the 50+ age group.
There are over 2000 of us, all retired or semi-retired, all wishing to carry on with an active lifestyle, whether that be for mind or body - or even both.
Some of our members have been Peterborians since birth, but others have moved into the area post-retirement and simply want a new circle of friends in the place they have chosen to spend their increased leisure time.
We are fortunate to have amongst our members a significant number of volunteers who act as Group Leaders to organise the activities, although all members attending groups are encouraged to participate fully in the groups they attend.
If you are interested in joining us, but find there isn’t a group that fires your interest, we can, and will, help you set one up.
We have regular monthly meetings where we are able to meet each other, exchange news and often listen to a Speaker, who will entertain and enlighten us on varied subjects.
We have vibrant Travel Groups (which have previously arranged trips to places as different as The Caribbean to South-End - on- Sea), Day Trip Groups going to more local places of interest, and a Theatre Group visiting theatres of London and some more local if you have Thespian leanings.
