The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is an evangelic part of the Christian Church. Our message is based upon the Bible. Our ministry is motivated by the love of God. Our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name, without discrimination.
Furniture, clothing and support for families in need.
Also run a number of activites including band, choir, youth group and Good Neighbourhood Scheme.
In 1986 we relocated from the city centre to our current site in New England. The move allowed us to extend the scope of our work and commence some new initiatives particularly within our local community. As attendances at our meetings grew with the programme it became clear to the leadership team that we needed to further extend our premises to fulfil our mission. In 2000 a major extension and refurbishment was undertaken to facilitate the vision. Our centre is open every day to support our service to the community which includes friendship and help programmes, debt counselling, emergency clothing and food parcels, day centres, luncheon and CAMEO clubs to name a few.
We are proud of our heritage, and although The Salvation Army is a worldwide Christian church and charity, we are passionate about working out how to offer faith, friendship and practical help to people of all ages, backgrounds and needs here in Peterborough.
