Peterborough School Nursing Service
We offer the Healthy Child Programme Universally across a minimum of 4 mandated contacts:
Reception Screening (to include; height, weight, hearing and vision screening).
Year 6 Health Screening ( to include Height and weight)
Year 6 questionnaires sent out to parents.
Year 9 Questionnaires sent to students (offered School Nurse appointment if requested).
We also offer medical training to all school staff for management of :
School Nurses also offer appointments in school to any young person that feels they need some additional support or health education.
School Nursing supports the safeguarding of children alongside other professionals
We run weekly Healthy Young People Advice Clinics (HYPAs) in schools alongside sexual health services and youth locality teams. The aim of these clinics is to provide positive health promotion and signpost young people to appropriate services.
School Nurses also run regular nocturnal enuresis clinics and offer support to parents and school aged children around managing this.
Additionally we provide ongoing support alongside other professionals/services where there are identified complex health needs. This can include completing care plans for children who have emergency medical needs in school.

School Nurses are based in one locality. They cover the majority of schools in Peterborough. We see children and families in various settings, school, clinic and on certain occasions within the child’s home.

We are a Universal Service.
All school aged children have access to the School Nursing service and we offer all year round access. There are various referral pathways: School, the child/young person, other agencies/professionals and parents/carers.
